The German Young Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1973 under the auspices of the German Federal and Rheinland-Pfaltz Governments. It has received great support from public and private institutions, including the "LJO-Förderkreis," under the chairmanship of Dr. Ivo Meinhold-Heerlein. Through the diligent efforts of it's leaders, the German Young Symphony Orchestra has developed into one of the finest orchestras in Europe. Recent concert tours have taken the orchestra to major concert halls throughout Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and North America (including visits to Austria, France, England, Italy, Sweden, Israel, Greece, Spain, Mexico, U.S.A., South Africa, Poland, Czech Republic and China). The orchestra last toured North America in 2003 (California, Illinois, Michigan, Florida, and Mexico). In 2006, the GYSO was invited by the President of the German Federal Republic to perform the nationally-televised Christmas Concert. The high standard of the GYSO has been documented by numerous radio and television broadcasts and commercial recordings, including works by Mahler, Shostakovich, Bruch, Schmitt, Ravel, Chopin, Rimsky-Korsakov, and Wagner. Currently, the GYSO is led by Klaus Arp (Conductor) and Miroslaw Fojtzik (General Director). |
