Our faculty include internationally acclaimed performers who are committed to assisting the next generations of musicians reach their personal and musical goals. Admission is limited, ensuring maximum personal attention to each student and thus great progress within a relatively short amount of time. Former participants have continued on to successful professional careers.
The program includes private lessons and master classes with internationally acclaimed faculty and guest artists; chamber music rehearsals and coachings; presentations on topics such as “Effective Practicing” and “Careers in Music,” recitals by faculty and guest artists; and participation in student solo and chamber music recitals. In addition, students receive career guidance from faculty mentors and are encouraged to participate in recreational activities. The Institute takes place on the scenic campus of Mount St. Mary's University in Emmitsburg, Maryland and is followed by an optional five-day tour during which selected participants perform concerts in southern Pennsylvania.
IMIF-USA is organized under the auspices of Intermuse and the International Friends of Music, in collaboration with the American String Teachers Association and Mount St. Mary's University.
