PRESS RELEASE - AUGUST 30, 2018
Internationally-Acclaimed American Musical Family Invited to Lithuania To Perform In Remembrance of 75th Anniversary of Holocaust
The tour will include concerts, public workshops, seminars, and other intercultural events in major Lithuanian cities, from September 7-23. The Days of Remembrance events are organized by The Jewish Community of Lithuania in cooperation with the U.S. Embassy in Vilnius and Lithuanian social, religious, and cultural institutions.
Of particular significance, on Sunday, September 23, there will be a nationwide observance of the 75th anniversary of the liquidation of the Vilnius Ghetto as part of the National Day of Remembrance of the Genocide of the Jews of Lithuania. The Borowskys' performance will be internationally-televised and attended by political and religious leaders from Lithuania, Israel, and other countries. Pope Francis has been invited to attend this event. Together with Lithuanian musicians, they will perform the world-premiere of composer Giedrius Kuprevicius’s work, “The Star of David.”

Recital programs will feature music by American composers and original compositions by the Borowsky Family, all connected to a theme of Days of Remembrance, including, “In Memoriam.” This work was first premiered in Lithuania on June 14, 2013, on the national “Day of Mourning and Hope”, under the auspices of the President of Lithuania.
The Borowsky Family has an extensive history of serving as “musical diplomats” world-wide. Their mission statement is “Music: The Best Bridge for All People,” and they have performed special programs in over forty countries. They have been recognized for their work in the USA and abroad. In 2016, President Obama wrote to them: ”You are bringing the best of the American people around the world.”
