The joint tour of Vitautas Kiminius and the American Virtuosi (Borowsky Family) is pro bono organized and directed by Intermuse Performing Artists Bureau and cosponsored by Intermuse Performing Artists Bureau and the Alytus School of Music. Vytautas Kiminius: Biographical Note
Vytautas Kiminius is a distinguished opera and symphony orchestra conductor, and renowned as one of Lithuania's foremost birbynė players. His musical journey began at the Šilutė Art School, where he studied birbynė under Vytautas Vaičionis. In 2010, he graduated from the Stasys Šimkus Conservatory in Klaipėda, continuing his birbynė studies with Vytautas Zelenis. He earned a Bachelor of Birbynė Performance Art from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre in 2014, mentored by Kęstutis Lipeika. Furthering his musical education, he obtained a Master of Opera and Symphony Orchestra Conducting in 2016 under the guidance of Professor Juozas Domarkas. To expand his artistic horizons, he also pursued oboe performance studies with Professor Robertas Beinaris at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre and Alessandro Baccini at the Conservatorio di Verona Evaristo Felice Dall’abaco in Italy.
Kiminius has garnered numerous accolades. He is a Grand Prix winner of the international performers' contest "Renaissance" in Armenia and a three-time laureate of the Jonas Švedas performers' contest. His exceptional talent was recognized by the President of the Republic of Lithuania with a diploma of excellence in 2013. In the same year, he received a diploma from the Minister of Education of Lithuania for his contributions to the Lithuanian song festival "You Are One for Us" and his dedication to fostering cultural values among young people.
As a conductor and soloist, Kiminius has collaborated with prestigious ensembles such as the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra, St. Christopher's Chamber Orchestra, National Philharmonic Ensemble "Musica Humana," Glasperlenspiel Festival Chamber Orchestra, Estonian Kammerorkester Me105 Chamber Orchestra, Dutch Youth Symphony Orchestra, and various string quartets. He has shared the stage with renowned soloists including David Geringas, Robertas Beinaris, Olev Ainomäe, and The American Virtuosi (Borowsky Family).
Kiminius has been instrumental in promoting the birbynė on the international stage. He has performed with leading conductors and showcased the instrument's versatility through existing and commissioned works. His dedication to the birbynė extends to education and research, as he actively develops teaching methodologies and innovative performance techniques.
In 2021, he was Kiminius was appointed Kiminius the Artistic Director of the Veliuona International Music Festival. Since 2022, he has also served as the conductor of the Alytus Youth Symphony Orchestra "Svajone."
